Youngsters land ambassador roles

Young people from across the 15 StreetChance boroughs have been handed the chance to further develop their personal skills and become role models for others.

The ambassador programme will give some of the older participants who’ve already shown a commitment to StreetChance the opportunity to take responsibility for the future development of the programme, as well as being role models to youngsters in their borough.

The first ambassador meeting was held in June at Barclays headquarters at 1 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf. Those chosen to be ambassadors were given the chance to share their views on what they liked about the programme and what they felt could be improved.

After lengthy discussion the ambassadors, as well as the programme partners, were given a list of actions to deliver on before the next meeting.

Among the tasks handed to ambassadors were to research ways to advertise StreetChance sessions in their borough and to organise categories for an end of year StreetChance Awards Night.

Ambassadors felt they should earn something that gives them recognition among their peer group – for example, earning the right to wear a StreetChance branded tracksuit after serving a full year as an ambassador.

The next meeting is due to take place at the home of cricket – Lord’s Cricket Ground.
